Sokoto State Govt Has Approved Monthly Allowances for Imams, Mosques

The Sokoto State Government has introduced monthly stipends for Imams, their deputies, and Mu’azzins across the state, alongside new financial allocations for Jumu’at Mosques.

The announcement was made in a statement by Abubakar Bawa, Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, who explained that the move aims to boost Islamic propagation and promote Qur’anic memorisation among children.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu disclosed the initiative on Saturday during the graduation ceremony of 111 Qur’an memorisers at the Sokoto branch of the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation.

According to him, all Jumu’at Mosques in the state will now receive monthly allocations ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000, depending on their category.

In addition, allowances have been approved for Imams, deputies, and Mu’azzins to strengthen their work and ensure the continued growth of Islamic teachings.

Aliyu stressed that Islamic affairs remain a top priority under his administration’s “Nine-point Smart Agenda,” second only to security.

“Encouraging Qur’anic memorisation among our children will help raise a generation firmly grounded in the teachings of Islam and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH),” the governor added.
