The Sokoto State Government has officially banned all “signing-out” celebrations among graduating secondary school students, citing rising concerns over indiscipline and public disorder.
The ban, which affects both public and private schools, was announced in a circular issued on Thursday, July 24, 2024.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, said the decision was prompted by increasing reports of student misconduct, including vandalism, reckless behaviour, and disruptions to public peace.
He noted that what began as a joyful tradition has degenerated into an avenue for chaos and a departure from academic values.
The directives affects both public and private schools in the state.
Prof Ala stressed that the Ministry is committed to instilling discipline and ensuring students remain focused and responsible.
He warned that schools failing to comply with the directive will face sanctions, and urged parents and school authorities to support the enforcement of the policy.
