Six Suspected Kidnappers Killed In Police Raid In Rivers State (Photos)

In a successful operation, operatives from the Rivers State Police Command have eliminated six suspected kidnappers during a raid on their hideout in the Obelle community, located in the Emohua local government area of the state. The Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, made this announcement while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Friday, July 7, 2023.

According to Commissioner Emeka, the police had been closely monitoring a gang led by Uchechukwu Daniel, known for their involvement in cult activities and kidnappings in the Emohua local government area, specifically along the East-West Road. Acting on intelligence, the Anti-cultism and Tactical Units of the police force launched an operation to apprehend the criminals.

As the police approached the hideout, the criminals opened fire, prompting a swift response from the operatives. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, six of the hoodlums were fatally wounded, while six others were apprehended. Some of the gang members managed to escape in different directions with bullet wounds.

The police commissioner also revealed that on June 30, 2023, during a routine patrol at the King Perekule Junction in GRA, Port Harcourt, police operatives intercepted and rescued a kidnap victim. The victim provided crucial information about the activities of the gang.

Taking immediate action on the obtained information, the police trailed the kidnappers to their hideout in the Ozuoha community of IKwerre local government area. There, they successfully rescued the victims unharmed and arrested a suspect identified as Mr. Buchi David.

During the operation, the police recovered several items from the criminals, including locally fabricated arms, cut-to-size guns, and six cartridges. The police commissioner commended the bravery and professionalism of the operatives involved in the successful operations.

In related events, Commissioner Emeka disclosed that on Friday, June 30, 2023, the police disrupted a cult-related activity in Bonny’s Hospital Road area. Upon seeing the approaching police, the cultists fled the scene, leaving behind a pistol, a bag, and a Techno phone, which were subsequently recovered.

Furthermore, the police commissioner reported that a raid was conducted on criminal hideouts in the Rumudomaya community of Obio-Akpor local government area on June 20, 2023. During the operation, a number of suspects, including both men and women ranging from 15 to 28 years old, were apprehended. Various illicit drugs were also seized from their possession.

At another hideout located behind Rumuokoro Market in Obio-Akpor, the combined team of policemen and vigilantes recovered three Police Mobile Force (PMF) uniforms, an Army cap, a locally fabricated pistol, and live cartridges.

Additionally, on July 5, 2023, operatives from the Anti-cultism unit, Bori annex, arrested a notorious criminal identified as Baridara Baridam, aka ‘Ojukwu,’ in Yokuru community of Khana local government area. Baridam, who had been on the police’s wanted list, is a member of a three-man gang that has been terrorizing the Ogoni axis of the East-West Road. The arrest yielded two AK47 rifles as evidence.
