According to the official citation, Oluyede served in ECOMOG operations in Sierra Leone between 1992 and 1994 as a Platoon Commander stationed at the residence of the then Head of State. He was commended for his leadership and professionalism during the conflict period.

Other honourees included former Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), retired Kenyan General Daniel Opande, Ibrahima Sory Bangoura of Guinea, Paul Rogers of the United States, and retired UK officer Edward Butler.

Officials also paid tribute to the Nigerian Armed Forces for their crucial role during Sierra Leone’s civil war, acknowledging the sacrifices and contributions of ECOMOG forces to regional peace and the protection of civilians.
