A 30-year-old shop owner, Ibekwe Ezinne Mary, has been taken into police custody for allegedly killing her 17-year-old sales assistant, Ihechidere Favour Uka, in Lagos.
The fatal incident is reported to have occurred on the evening of Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at a cosmetics store.
According to accounts from the victim’s family, the confrontation began when the employer asked Ihechidere to bring her an item. An argument erupted after the teenager returned later than expected.
During the altercation, Ezinne allegedly slapped the girl twice, and Ihechidere reportedly slapped her back once in response. This allegedly prompted the suspect to grab a kitchen knife and stab the teenager in the chest.
Ihechidere reportedly suffered severe blood loss from the wound and later succumbed to her injuries.
Family sources confirm that the suspect has been arrested and is currently detained by the police, where she is said to have admitted to the act.
The tragic event has provoked public anger, leading to renewed demands for justice and raising serious concerns about the welfare and safety of underage workers.
