The Socio-Economic Right and Accountability Project (SERAP) urges Governor Ademola Adeleke to urgently reinstate recently sacked Chief Justice Oyebola Ojo, challenging the removal as unlawful.
In respect of a National Industrial Court order preventing Adeleke interference with the judiciary, the Governor went ahead to suspend Chief Judge Ojo and immediately replaced her with Justice Yinka Afolabi, citing allegations of misconduct.
Freshreporters News reports that SERAP has condemned the removal and demands its immediate reversal, emphasizing the need to halt authoritarian attacks on the rule of law.
“Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke must immediately reverse his apparently unlawful removal of Adepele Ojo as the Chief Judge of Osun state. This vicious cycle of authoritarian attacks on the rule of law must stop. We’ll see in court if this illegality is not reversed,” a statement by SERAP read.
The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has also criticized the governor’s action, rejecting the suspension and vowing not to recognize Justice Afolabi if sworn in as Acting Chief Judge.
