Senate President Expected To Read Tinubu’s Ministerial List Today

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, is expected to read the ministerial list of Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu during today’s (Thursday) plenary session at the National Assembly.

The list, which is now in the possession of the National Assembly, contains the names of individuals who will make up Tinubu’s cabinet as he assumes office as President on May 29, 2023.

According to the Nigerian constitution, President Tinubu has a 60-day period to form his cabinet, and this deadline ends on July 28, 2023.

During Tinubu’s inauguration at the Eagle Square, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one of the President’s key supporters, James Faleke, had stated that Tinubu would unveil his cabinet members within this 60-day timeframe.

The issue of the ministerial list has been the subject of speculation and rumors, but on July 6, 2023, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Dele Alake, debunked the rumors, asserting that the President will announce the cabinet list when he deems it appropriate.

Past experiences have led to a focus on the importance of timely ministerial announcements. During the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the late announcement of ministers was thought to have contributed to a slow take-off. Tinubu, who succeeded Buhari, is expected to handle the process differently and make his cabinet appointments promptly. (CONTINUE READING HERE)
