A major terrorist attack was foil in Niger State following a joint military operation by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), who intercepted and neutralized scores of insurgents attempting to infiltrate local communities.

The confrontation took place on July 22, 2025, when a large group of terrorists advancing from the Baban Doka axis of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State moved toward Ragada and Warari communities in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to a statement released by David Adewusi, Media Information Officer of OPFY, the troops drawn from the Mariga and Zuru axes quickly mobilized and launched a coordinated offensive near Inana Village in Rijau LGA.

The operation, according to the military, led to a fierce firefight that resulted in the deaths of numerous terrorists.

“The success of the ground assault was bolstered by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which provided crucial surveillance and air strikes that helped the ground forces maintain tactical superiority throughout the battle.

“During the mop-up operation, troops recovered an array of weapons and equipment from the terrorists, including two AK-47 rifles, a loaded magazine with five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and 18 motorcycles believed to have been intended for mobility and escape. Communication gadgets and other items were also seized”, the statement reads.
