Rivers State Man Arrested For Selling His Three Children For N1.5m

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as ThankGod Ekwueme for the shocking crime of selling his three children. The suspect’s wife, who is deaf and dumb, was allegedly unaware of her husband’s heinous activities.

According to the spokesperson of the police command, SP, the arrest took place following credible information received about Ekwueme’s illegal actions. In a statement released on Thursday, July 13, 2023, the spokesperson disclosed that the suspect had sold his 5-year-old child for N700,000, his 3-year-old for N350,000, and even went as far as selling his day-old baby for N500,000.

Ekwueme was intercepted by the local security outfit, OSPAC, in his community of Omerelu, located in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state. He was apprehended just as he was about to sell his newborn baby. Subsequently, he was handed over to the Elele Police Division, from where he was transferred to the CP Monitoring unit for further investigation.

In an interview with journalists, the suspect admitted to his crimes. He revealed that he had been deceiving his mother-in-law, claiming that his wife had given birth to children who tragically died shortly after delivery. Exploiting his wife’s disabilities, Ekwueme took advantage of her inability to communicate effectively to carry out the despicable act of selling their children.

The mother-in-law expressed her shock and anguish over the revelation, explaining that she had been deceived by Ekwueme’s lies about the deaths of her grandchildren. She was completely unaware of his involvement in the illegal trade of selling their own flesh and blood.

The Rivers State Police Command is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, and the suspect will face the full wrath of the law for his heartless actions. The welfare and safety of the children are of utmost importance, and measures will be taken to ensure their well-being and protection.
