Return Seized Food Items To Owners – Tinubu Orders Customs

The Nigerian Customs Service has been instructed by President Bola Tinubu to restore all seized grains to their owners so that they may be resold in Nigerian markets, according to Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

This was revealed by the CGC on Saturday during a stakeholder conference in Kwangwalam, a border town in Katsina State’s Maiadua Local Government Area.

According to him, the president issued the order in an effort to ensure that there is enough food for everyone in the nation to purchase from the markets at a reduced cost.

But according to him, the owners could only get their confiscated food products back provided they agreed to sell them in Nigerian marketplaces.

“The whole idea is to promote food security and ensure that Nigerians will not be living with hunger and Mr President considers this as one of the strategies that can help address the problem of food security.

“We have over 120 trucks of food items for export seized, which means a lot of food items were taken out of our markets, leading to the unavailability that created some pressure on the prices of these food items. So, we hope that by the time we restock our markets, it will have some positive effects on the prices,” he said. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
