The House of Representatives’ Public Accounts Committee asked questioned the Federal Ministry of Water Resources about allegations of spending a lot of money on boreholes.
They wanted to know if one borehole cost N25 million and others N12.5 million each.
The Committee’s chairman, Bamidele Salam, also criticized the ministry for spending N4 billion on hiring 100 people for a three-month project called Youth Engagement for Sanitation.
This project is supposed to happen in all 774 Local Government Areas in the country.
Freshreporters News reports that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Didi Walson-Jack, spoke to the committee on Tuesday. She said they did sink boreholes in many states, including the Federal Capital Territory.
It would be noted that they worked on 299 new water schemes and fixed 188 old solar boreholes during that time. Each state got N10 million worth of help.
The committee members were not happy with the information. They asked to check if the project sites were real and not confused with old boreholes.
