Liverpool’s defeat to Everton on Wednesday night dealt a crushing blow to their dreams of winning the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp’s last season
Following their match on Wednesday, Manchester City, the reigning champions, were one point behind the Reds but still had two games remaining against them. On Thursday, they play Brighton, where a point would be sufficient to move them over Liverpool.
With just weeks of the season to go, there’s little margin of error for any of the sides in title contention. Liverpool’s midweek defeat might indeed have ruled them out of contention entirely, as they now need both rivals to slip up.
All three contenders have matches against fifth-placed Tottenham to come, with Arsenal first to play Ange Postecoglou’s side. There are also games which could impact the relegation battle and the fight for European qualification.
