President Bola Tinuku has officially signed the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Amendment Bill 2026 into law, following its approval by the National Assembly after months of deliberation.
The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday at the State House, attended by top government officials including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House Tajudeen Abbas, and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.
Speaking at the event, Tinuku underscored the importance of strengthening Nigeria’s electoral framework to guard against technical failures and potential cyber threats. He stated that credible elections are fundamental to sustaining democracy and driving national development.
The President affirmed that democracy is built on robust dialogue and shared commitment to the nation’s progress, adding that Nigerians must have full confidence in the electoral system.
“It’s not as important as the historical aspects of this. What is crucial is that you manage the process to the extent that there will be no confusion, no disenfranchisement of Nigerians, and that we are all going to see democracy flourish,” he said.
