In a dramatic move on Tuesday evening, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing an escalating crisis between the executive and legislative arms of government.
The announcement came during a televised national address that lasted for 12 minutes, sending shockwaves across the nation.
Tinubu’s intervention comes as tensions in Rivers State have reached a boiling point, with growing unrest between key political figures.
As part of the emergency measures, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his Deputy, and all members of the Assembly are set to face immediate suspension for the next six months.
The President emphasised that this decision, though difficult, was necessary to restore stability and ensure good governance in the state.
According to him:
“By this declaration, the Governor of Rivers State, Mr Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Odu and all elected members of the House of Assembly of Rivers State are hereby suspended for an initial period of six months.
“In the meantime, I hereby nominate Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state in the interest of the good people of Rivers State.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
