South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has offered tribute to the late musician Bulelwa Mkutukana, also known as Zahara.
Freshreporters News reports that Ramaphosa, during the inaugural Presidential Plenary on Science and Technology in Pretoria on Tuesday, expressed sorrow over Zahara’s sudden demise.
The president while recognizing the significant loss of the talented singer to the country, says that death has robbed South Africa.
The South African president said: “It’s really unfortunate.”
“We’ve been robbed of great talent. She was talented, vibrant, and a wonderful composer. To be robbed of her great talent at her young age it’s a real blow to our country. She is one of the great products the country has produced in the arts and I’m really saddened by her passing.”
Zahara, aged 36, passed away on December 11 after a three-week hospitalization due to a liver disease resulting from years of alcohol misuse.
The acclaimed singer rose to fame in 2011 with her album Loliwe, and in 2020, she was featured in the BBC’s 100 Women list.
