Pope Leo XIV made his first public appearance today, emerging onto the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica to greet the faithful as the newly elected 267th leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected as the new Pope of the Catholic Church, taking the name Pope Leo XIV and becoming the first American to hold the papacy.
Pope Leo XIV succeeds the late Pope Francis, who passed away last month at 88.
