Pope Leo XIV has offered prayers for victims of a “terrible massacre” in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where around 200 people were reportedly killed in a brutal overnight attack.
Speaking before the Sunday Angelus prayer at the Vatican, the Pope described the victims most of whom were internally displaced persons sheltered by a local Catholic mission as “brutally killed,” and called for “security, justice, and peace” in Nigeria.
Pope Leo XIV said:
“I pray that security, justice and peace will prevail in Nigeria, a beloved country afflicted by various forms of violence.
