Police Officer Who Shöt Schoolboy in Ibadan Now Under Investigation — Oyo Govt Declares

The Oyo State Government has confirmed that the police officer who fatally sh+t a secondary school student during a traffic stop in Ibadan is now in custody and under investigation.

The incident, which took place Tuesday morning along Alakia Old Road, triggered widespread outr+ge and a protest march by angry residents to the State Secretariat, demanding justice.

According to a statement signed by Sulaimon Olanrewaju, spokesperson to Governor Seyi Makinde, the tr+gic sh++ting was “sad, shocking, and totally avoidable.” The government extended condolences to the victim’s family and assured the public of a full investigation in collaboration with the Oyo State Police Command.

The boy was reportedly in a black, tinted Honda Accord driven by his father, who was v+olating traffic rules by driving against traffic. During an attempt to stop the car, a police officer—now the focus of an internal probe—allegedly aimed at the car’s tyres but accidentally sh+t the student instead.

Witnesses said the officer appeared to be trying to stop the vehicle when he opened fir£. “It happened so fast,” said one observer near Gbagi Market. “The sh+t missed the tyre and h+t the boy.”

The child was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared d+ad on arrival.

Officials clarified that the operation was not targeting internet fra¥dsters, as speculated online, but was part of a routine enforcement effort led by the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) to curb reckless driving along the busy route—an area with a history of f+tal traffic incidents.

The government noted that police support was enlisted after prior att+cks on traffic officers, including the recent k+lling of an OYRTMA official.

While investigations continue, residents have been urged to remain calm. The state reiterated its commitment to justice and emphasized the importance of obeying traffic regulations to prevent future tr+gedies. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
