Jackson Majaliwa, a Tanzanian fisherman, who was among the first responders who helped in rescuing 24 passengers from the airplane that crashed into Lake Victoria on Sunday has been awarded a cash gift of $428 (equivalent of Tsh1 million) and an automatic government job.
According to report gathered the cash was handed over to him by the Kagera Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, from the lakeside town of Bukoba yesterday, Monday.
While about 24 passengers were rescued, 19 others died due to the plane crash.
Samia Suluhu, the President of the federal republic of Tanzania Samia Suluhu also offered Mr Majaliwa an automatic job with the firefighting and rescue brigade in the country and additional rescue operations training to sharpen his skills.
