The Nigeria Labour Congress has declared that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential nominee, is free to quit the party.
The NLC also promised to see to it that Julius Abure stepped down as the party’s national chairman.
This occurs in the midst of the party’s protracted crisis, which was sparked by the planning of its national convention—which the NLC has declared to be unlawful.
Benson Upah, a spokesperson for the NLC, stated that the union will never acknowledge Abure as the national chairman of the party, even in light of the “illegal” national convention that reinstated him.
He said:
