PEPC Verdict: A Triumph for Democracy; Sankara Applauds Tinubu’s Victory

Senator Danladi Sankara, the representative of Jigawa North-West in both the 7th and 9th Senate terms, has expressed his admiration for the verdict delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT).

The tribunal upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election that took place on February 25, 2023.

In a unanimous judgment delivered in Abuja on Wednesday, PEPT dismissed all the allegations raised against Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Responding to this judgment in a statement bearing his personal signature, Senator Sankara declared, “This is a victory for democracy.”

He emphasized that even individuals without legal expertise recognized that all the issues brought forward by the opposition to challenge Tinubu and Shettima’s election were related to “pre-election” matters that had already been resolved by various courts prior to the election.

Sankara remarked, “We owe all our gratitude to Allah for this well-earned triumph of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima at the election tribunal.

“This development has predictably validated their election and will, in turn, fortify their determination and ability as leaders to deliver the fruits of democracy to the Nigerian populace.

I would like to take this opportunity to urge Nigerians to unite in support of the President and Vice President, offering them all the necessary assistance to expedite the country’s progress.”

He further advised opposition factions and petitioners to deeply reflect on Nigeria’s well-being and to abandon any actions or activities that could divert the duly elected leaders from effectively fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.
