Pastor Iren Advises Christian Woman Dating Muslim Man, Recalls Case of Troubled Marriage

During a recent church service, a young woman sought counsel from Pastor Iren about her relationship with a Muslim man she loves and considers marriage material, despite her Christian background and her parents’ strong disapproval of interfaith unions.

Responding to her question, Pastor Iren approached the matter from a biblical perspective, explaining that marriage is not something humans can redesign to fit their emotions. He used the analogy of a shortlet: you don’t move in and start changing the structure because you didn’t design it. God did. According to Scripture, believers are instructed not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers.

He emphasised that this is not a personal opinion but a biblical standard, citing the verse that questions how the temple of God can have fellowship with idols. He noted that the issue is spiritual, not merely emotional.

To illustrate his point, Pastor Iren shared the story of a Christian woman who married a Muslim man. Before marriage, the man appeared loving, respectful, and supportive of her faith he didn’t object to her church attendance. However, after the wedding, he allegedly stopped her from going to church.

When the couple had a child, the situation became more complicated. The son was given an Islamic name, dedicated according to Islamic rites, and the mother was prevented from raising him in the Christian faith. According to the pastor, everything the man had said he wouldn’t do eventually happened.

Pastor Iren concluded that purpose must come before pleasure. A spiritually aligned and purpose-driven home, he said, is far more important than emotional satisfaction or simply ticking relational boxes.
