Following Monaco’s loss to Lyon on Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain was officially crowned the Ligue 1 champions for the twelfth time in their history.
PSG was aware heading into the weekend that victory over Le Havre at home on Saturday would guarantee the championship. They could only draw 3-3, though, in a fun match at a soggy Pac des Princes.
The encounter in Lyon between Monaco, who are in second position, was then the focus of attention. Anything less than a victory for Monaco would guarantee the championship for the Parisians, and that’s exactly what happened as Lyon prevailed 3-2.
This is PSG’s third consecutive championship, and manager Luis Enrique, who navigated the team’s path to glory over difficult seas in his first season in charge, will be ecstatic.
