Over 150 Killed In Halloween Stampede In Seoul, President Declares Period Of National Mourning

More than 150 people were reportedly killed in a stampede at a Halloween event that took place in central Seoul today, Sunday.

Yoon Suk-yeol, the South Korean president, has vowed to commence a thorough investigation into one of the country’s disasters that ever happened.

It was gathered that crowd surged in and crush hit in the capital’s popular Itaewon district, which after the incident, estimates suggest as many as 100,000 people — mostly in their teens and 20s — went to celebrate Halloween during the weekend, Saturday night.

The country’s President Yoon Suk-yeol announced a period of national mourning today, Sunday, telling the citizens in a televised address that “a tragedy and disaster occurred that should not have happened”.

The president noted that the government “will thoroughly investigate the cause of the incident and make fundamental improvements to ensure the same accident does not occur again in the future.”
