One fire that struck at a lithium battery manufacturing plant in the southern part of Seoul on Monday, 24th of June, 2024 has left at least 21 persons currently unaccounted for with one dead and three injured.
According to sources, firefighters say that the death toll could rise due to the fire which started at a lithium battery maker Aricell’s plant in Hwaseong around 10;30am.
At of the time of filing this report, cause of the fire incident at the three-storey building is yet to be known although one witness, who escaped from the second floor told the Hwaseong Fire Station that an explosive combustion occurred in one battery cell at the time of the fire.
The deceased worker who was taken to the hospital suffered a cardiac arrest with at least 21 others believed to still be stranded inside the plant adding that one sustained major injuries and two with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, firefighters are reportedly having difficulties completely putting out the fire especially because burning lithium batteries are difficult to handle by conventional fire extinguishing methods.
The station however said the fire spread rapidly as the battery cells inside exploded continuously, making it difficult for rescuers to go inside and search adding that at least 35,000 batteries are believed to be inside the plant.
Out of 67 workers who were on duty on Monday, 21 people remain out of contact with fears there will be more casualties. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
