The 83-year-old Olojoda of the Oda kingdom, Julius Omomo, passed away.
The monarch’s passing was confirmed on Sunday by Ade Adelakun, a family source.
According to Adelakun, the traditional ruler passed away on Saturday following a short illness. Omomo was a “humble, decent, and down-to-earth monarch,” according to him.
Adelakun said that under his rule, the realm of the king experienced prosperity and tranquility.
On May 30, 2023, Omomo was proclaimed king, and in December of the same year, he was crowned. Litigation followed his accession to the throne.
The ruling house’s members called his installation unlawful and a call to chaos.
They asserted that neither the kingmakers nor the community’s residents had approved the installation.
Stakeholders said despite an appeal challenging Omomo’s nomination as monarch for the community, the state government approved his installation.
“The notice of Appeal was communicated to the state governor, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Chairman Akure South Local Government and the Ruling House,” members of the ruling house said in a statement at the time.
“Any step taken by the government would be prejudicial and might lead to a breakdown of law and order in the ancient community if the Omomo is installed as the traditional ruler.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]
