Three people are being held by the Ogun State Police Command in connection with the purported attempt to kill a commercial motorbike rider in the Abeokuta, Ogun State, neighborhood of Afonta.
Shehu Dikko, Adija Monsuru, and Monsuru Musa are charged with assaulting Tijanni, an okada rider, on Monday night, March 4.
Tijanni suffered serious injuries to his mouth, neck, and head as a result of the attack.
Monsuru had requested that Tijanni drive her from Lafenwa in Abeokuta to the Soyeye neighborhood. But shortly before the Soyeye village, in a remote location, Monsuru urged Tijanni to get off the motorcycle so she could make a phone call to a friend who would be taking the same path.
Before the three suspects could flee into a nearby shrubbery, more motorcycles, locals, and a group of police officers arrived on the scene and arrested them.
Odutola Omolola, the public relations officer for the state police, verified the occurrence to media outlets, claiming that the suspects belonged to a well-known syndicate and had planned to steal the motorbike before being caught.
