The minimum pay for employees in Edo State has been raised by Governor Godwin Obaseki from N40,000 to N70,000.
The statement was made by the governor at the opening of the state’s brand-new, state-of-the-art Labour House secretariat complex for labor unions, located along Temboga Road in Ikpoba-Hill, Benin City.
This is happening while the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) are at odds over raising the minimum wage to keep up with rising food and national inflation.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reports that in March 2024, the rate of inflation increased to 33.2 percent from 31.7 percent in February. Moreover, food inflation increased from 30% in February to 31.7% in March. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
