The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, has declared that Governor Monday Okpebholo was divinely chosen by his ancestors to restore the lost glory of Edo State.
The monarch made this statement on Thursday during a solidarity visit by Governor Okpebholo to the Benin Palace, following his victory at the Edo State governorship election tribunal in Abuja.
Describing Okpebholo as a true son of the soil, Oba Ewuare II offered prayers for him and his family, asking the ancestors to bless them for standing firm against the forces trying to derail the state. In an unusual gesture, the Oba lifted Okpebholo after he knelt in appreciation, predicting that his administration would usher in greater development for Edo.
Speaking in the Edo language, the monarch said,
“It shall be well with you, your wife, and your children. Our ancestors approved your journey to Edo. They brought you to restore the lost glory of the state that evildoers tried to steal.”
