The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced a thorough on site investigation into the crash landing of a Diamond training aircraft belonging to the Aviation Training School at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport in Ilorin.
According to a statement on Saturday by the Bureau’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Bimbo Oladeji, the incident occurred at approximately 5:28 p.m. local time on Friday, May 23, 2025, during a simulated instrument approach on Runway 05.
The aircraft was carrying two occupants at the time of the incident.
Both individuals survived and are receiving medical attention. One of them has undergone an MRI scan, while both are reported to be conscious and in stable condition.
NSIB Director General, Captain Alex Badeh, visited the crash site on Saturday to personally assess the scene and supervise the early stages of the investigation.
He confirmed that vital flight data had already been recovered and is currently undergoing analysis as investigators work to determine the root cause of the crash.
“Our investigators are on the ground and have begun work in earnest. The damaged aircraft is positioned on the left side of the runway, and recovery operations are nearly complete. Four of our specialists will remain at the site to complete critical measurements before returning to Abuja.
“Our job is to determine what happened, to whom it happened, how it happened, and most importantly, how to prevent it from happening again.
“They are conscious, coherent, and in stable condition. One has undergone an MRI scan, and both are receiving appropriate medical care.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
