In a shocking incident that has left the nation in disbelief, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has successfully rescued a 25-year-old woman who was held captive by her own father for a staggering five years. The incident took place in Jigawa State, and the details of the rescue have been confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC’s Dutse Command, Adamu Shehu, in an exclusive interview with Channels Television.
The young woman, identified as Ummi Garba, had been subjected to a living nightmare, trapped within the confines of a room by her 67-year-old father, Malam Garba Musa. Shockingly, this room served as Ummi’s bedroom, restroom, and dining area all at once. For half a decade, she endured unimaginable suffering and isolation.
The fortunate turn of events leading to Ummi’s rescue came when Safiya Mustapha, a 50-year-old resident living just a few blocks away, became aware of the dire situation. Filled with concern and empathy, Safiya promptly raised the alarm, alerting authorities to Ummi’s distressing predicament.
In a display of commendable swift action, human rights activist Musbahu Basirka, upon receiving the distress call, rushed to the scene as one of the first responders. His presence and assistance played a crucial role in ensuring the successful rescue of Ummi.
As of Saturday evening, the NSCDC has taken custody of the suspects, Ummi’s father, Garba Musa, and his wife, who also happens to be Ummi’s stepmother. The couple is now under investigation by the NSCDC as they seek to uncover the truth behind this appalling act of cruelty.
