The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has captured and publicly displayed 20 individuals believed to be involved in vandalizing and stealing manholes.
Olusola Odumosu, the Commandant of the FCT NSCDC, stated that most of the arrested suspects were caught red-handed engaging in the theft of manholes and damaging government property across different parts of the FCT.
Odumosu firmly expressed that the Corps would not tolerate the activities of scavengers within the city center of the FCT any longer. He emphasized the Command’s proactive stance in addressing the increasing cases of theft and vandalism that have been negatively affecting the FCT Metropolis.
The Commandant explained, “To counter the rising cases of theft and vandalism that have been negatively impacting the FCT Metropolis, the Command adopted a strategic and active approach. We initiated well-planned routine night patrols, which yielded highly effective results.”
“During these patrols, we successfully apprehended 20 scavengers and troublemakers within the set timeframe. The arrested suspects underwent thorough interviews and profiling procedures. Subsequently, they will be handed over to the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) for prosecution.”

He went on to say that these heightened measures serve two main purposes: deterring potential criminals and ensuring the capture of those responsible for these illegal activities. This initiative aims to send a clear and unwavering message that criminal behavior will no longer be tolerated within the jurisdiction.
Odumosu highlighted the government’s steadfast commitment to addressing citizens’ concerns and safeguarding vital national assets and infrastructure throughout the FCT Metropolis.
