In response to a surge in passenger turnout during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced additional special train services across its major standard gauge corridors for Monday, June and 9, 2025.
The move follows the successful operation of special trips on Thursday, June 5, which recorded full bookings and heavy commuter traffic.
The extra services are intended to ease return travel for festive travellers heading back to their destinations.
On the Lagos-Ibadan route, the NRC has included an extra train scheduled for 1:55pm in addition to its usual services at 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
On the return leg, from Ibadan to Lagos, a new trip has been scheduled for 11:03 am while the regular 4:00 PM departure will now leave at 4:46 PM. The morning 8:00 AM trip remains unchanged.
In a related development, the NRC will extend its full six-trip daily schedule on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor ordinarily limited to the period between Friday and Monday to Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
This extension is intended to accommodate continued high demand on the route and ensure smoother passenger flow.
Speaking on the adjustments, the Managing Director of NRC, Kayode Opeifa, stated that the move reflects the corporation’s commitment to responsive service delivery and the public’s growing trust in railway transport.
He noted that the additional trips underscore the NRC’s dedication to providing safe, efficient, and timely rail services across the country.
Opeifa expressed satisfaction with the public’s response to the earlier special operations, emphasising that NRC remains committed to meeting the transportation needs of Nigerians during peak travel periods.
The Corporation has urged all passengers to complete their online bookings ahead of time and arrive at the stations early for security screening and timely boarding, as departures will adhere strictly to the scheduled times. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
