The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL has exposed not less than 83 illegal refineries in the Niger Delta in the last one week.
Making this disclosure in a tweet via its official X handle, NNPCL detailed that it also discovered 15 illegal pipelines same period.

“In the past week, 15 illegal pipeline connections and 83 illegal refineries have been uncovered in the Niger Delta,” NNPCL said.
Freshreporters News reports that the footage attached to the post reveals 211 cases of oil theft and damage which occurred between January 6th and 12th of the same month as reported.
The community of Umuajuloke in Rivers State accounted for seven vandalism incidents, one of which was related to a wellhead.
Indeed, as of the third week of June 2019, there were unverified reports pointing to an operating wellhead with a lot of those unauthorized connections in Owerri.
NNPCL further went ahead to detail that “83 illegal connections were spotted in Rivers, Abia, Imo and Bayelsa States.
“In Abia, a drone shot showed pockets of illegal refineries in Owaza, while illegal oil connections were discovered in Olodiama, Bayelsa State and Obuzor in Abia State,”
Other than that, it was discovered that Ogboinbiri in Bayelsa State were still ravaged by oil spills as 9 incidences of oil spills were reported during a week while majority again emanating from vandalism.

For Bayelsa State, there were the discovers of five sites of illegal oil storage in Central Boma and Cocoa Camp; in Iba Rivers State, there are the discoveries of crude oil sacks, and the content was seized.
Furthermore, it was reported that 60 wooden and fibre boats were seized in the Akwa Ibom, Delta State, and Rivers State.
