The Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development was on Thursday shut as members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) staged a dramatic protest, shutting down operations at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The labour union stormed the premises, wielding placards and chanting solidarity songs, in a bold move to demand justice for Victor Ekpaha — a ministry staffer who was allegedly dismissed unlawfully over two decades ago.
According to the NLC, Ekpaha’s termination, which dates back more than 20 years, was ruled illegal by a competent court of law.
Despite the court’s judgment ordering his reinstatement, the ministry has reportedly failed to comply.
The protesters insisted that Ekpaha be reinstated immediately and compensated with full remuneration covering the entire 20-year period of his absence from service. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
