The Nigerian Popular Award-winning Tems, has emerged the best new artiste at this year’s Soul Train Awards, which was aired during the weekend, Saturday, making her the first African to win this category.
Singer Tems knocked off compatriots, CKay, Fireboy DML, others Muni Long, Steve Lacy, Coco Jones, Dixson to the award.
Reports gathered noted that Nigerian singer Tems is the first to emerge winner in this category who hails from Africa.
Singer Tems was featured on Super Star Wizkid’s global hit song “Essence,” which won best collaboration at the 2021’s award.
Meanwhile, American Singer, Beyoncé was the top winner at the category. She had won album of the year for the fourth time with Renaissance, song of the year for the third time with “Break My Soul,” and best collaboration for “Make Me Say It Again, Girl,” featuring Singer Ronald Isley & The Isley Brothers.
