Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed N615,000 Minimum Wage

The details of the proposed N615,000 minimum wage have been revealed by Organized Labour which includes the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

On Friday, the NLC issued a statement that contained all the details.

As indicated in the statement, Food and Transportation accounted for a greater share of the suggested minimum wage.

According to the breakdown, Food was benchmarked at N270,000 for a duration of thirty days while Transportation was set at N110,000.

The total amount of expenses includes Electricity/Power (N20,000), Accommodation (N40,000), Utility Water (N10,000), Kerosene/Gas(N35,000), Clothing(N20,000) , Education(N50.00,) Sanitation( N10., ) and Medicals(N50,.0o). All together they add up to a sum of N615,o00.

It should be noted that the N615,000 minimum wage proposal was disclosed by Festus Osifo, President of TUC and Joe Ajaero, the President of NLC in their individual declarations.

President Bola Tinubu stated in his May Day address to workers that there will soon be a revision of the minimum wage.

The development arises amidst the struggle of Nigerian workers to cope with the soaring cost of living, fueled by a spike in inflation reaching 33.20% as recorded in March 2024. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
