Nigerian Senate Elects Principal Officers For The Upper Legislative Chamber, See List

In a significant development for Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber, the Senate, the election of principal officers took place today, July 4, 2023.

The newly elected officials will play crucial roles in shaping the legislative agenda and ensuring effective governance in the country.

The Senate Majority principal officers are as follows:

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti State) has been elected as the Senate Leader.

Senator Dave Umahi (Ebonyi State) has been appointed as the Deputy Senate Leader.

Senator Ali Ndume (Borno State) has been designated as the Chief Whip.

Senator Lola Ashiru (Kwara State) has been elected as the Deputy Chief Whip.

On the other hand, the Senate minority principal officers are as follows:

Senator Simon Mwadkwon (PDP) has been appointed as the Minority Leader. Senator Mwadkwon, as the leader of the opposition party in the Senate, will represent the interests and concerns of the minority party and provide alternative perspectives on legislative matters.
