A Nigerian national has been shot and killed in Johannesburg, South Africa, during an anti-drug operation conducted by a local political group.
The incident occurred on Sunday, February 8, 2026, in Windsor East, Gauteng. An eyewitness reported the victim, identified only as Rugert, was asleep in his car when he was startled by a man standing on the vehicle’s bonnet. Fearing a carjacking, Rugert allegedly panicked and attempted to drive away. He was shot during the attempt.
The operation involved members of ActionSA, including the party’s Ekurhuleni Mayoral candidate, Councillor Xolani Khumalo. ActionSA confirmed the fatal shooting in a statement released on Monday.
“During an anti-drug operation yesterday, a shooting incident occurred in which a Nigerian suspect, identified as being involved in drug trafficking, was shot,” the statement read.
Councillor Khumalo, speaking in his capacity as the mayoral candidate, also confirmed the event: “I can confirm that there was a shooting incident during an anti-drug operation yesterday. A Nigerian suspect was shot.”
The political party stated the raid was part of its broader initiative to combat drug trafficking and organized crime, which it claims continues to plague communities with violence and intimidation.
