Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Body Sanctions 8 DisCos for Overbilling Unmetered Customers

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has sanctioned eight electricity distribution companies (DisCos) for overbilling unmetered customers, in violation of the approved monthly energy caps between July and September 2024.

The affected DisCos are Abuja, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola.

As part of the sanctions, the companies are to pay a combined fine exceeding ₦628 million. In addition, they are mandated to issue credit adjustments to the accounts of all affected customers no later than May 15, 2025.
