The procedure took place at King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children, located within King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
With shared organs including the abdomen, pelvis, liver, intestines, and urinary and reproductive systems, the twins presented a challenging case for the surgical team.
However, under the leadership of Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, an esteemed advisor to the Saudi Royal Court and the supervisor-general of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, the 85-member multidisciplinary team rose to the occasion.
Before the operation commenced, Dr. Al-Rabeeah outlined the eight stages involved in the separation process.
This remarkable undertaking was made possible by the directives of King Salman of Saudi Arabia, who has consistently supported and initiated humanitarian efforts within the country.
