Nigerian Cleric Accuses Northern Universities of Denying His Children Admission Over Activism

The regional chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) for Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, has made a serious allegation that his children are being systematically blocked from gaining admission into Nigerian universities as retribution for his activism.

In a statement issued on Friday, Rev. Dachomo, a vocal critic of violence against Christian communities, claimed that his qualified children have faced repeated rejections, particularly from institutions in northern Nigeria. He directly links this to his public stance against what he calls the systematic killing of Christians by bandits and terrorists in Plateau State.

Describing the situation as profoundly painful and unjust, the clergyman stressed that his children are innocent and should not suffer for his advocacy. He explained that despite meeting all academic requirements, their applications are allegedly set aside without clear justification during the screening process.

Rev. Dachomo claims admission officers recognize the surname “Dachomo,” after which the applications are quietly dropped. “My children have been denied admission into universities, especially in the north, because of my stance in exposing the killing of Christians,” he stated, alleging this has happened on more than three occasions, indicating a deliberate pattern.

The cleric reported that the ordeal has caused significant emotional distress for his entire family, especially his children, who have no involvement in his public work. He has issued a direct appeal to the Nigerian government and educational authorities to intervene and ensure his children are not deprived of their fundamental right to education due to his beliefs.
