Nigerian Citizen K!lled While Serving in Russian Army in Ukraine

A Nigerian man who travelled overseas to join the Russian military in its conflict against Ukraine has died in combat.

The identity of the deceased has not been officially released. Reports state he left his family in Nigeria to enlist in the Russian Army following the outbreak of the war.

His death follows recent reports that a 28-year-old Kenyan national, Clinton Nyapara Mogesa, was also killed while fighting for Russian forces in eastern Ukraine.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the Nigerian’s death in a social media post on Monday, stating he was killed in action but providing no additional specifics.

It is believed the Nigerian national was among a number of foreign recruits secured by Russia, often through direct enlistment drives that offered financial incentives, residency promises, or other benefits.

In a related development, Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence confirmed that the Kenyan national, Mogesa, was killed during combat in the Donetsk region. His body was reportedly recovered by Ukrainian forces from a former Russian defensive position.

According to Ukrainian officials, Mogesa had been residing and working in Qatar before travelling to Russia, where he received brief military training before being deployed to an assault unit in eastern Ukraine, a region marked by intense and costly fighting.
