The Nigerian Army’s 81 Division has apprehended six individuals for impersonating military officers, according to Lieutenant Ayodeji Owoyomi, speaking on behalf of the Commander, Brigadier General Mohammed Abubakar. The arrests took place at the Division in Victoria Island, Lagos on Monday.
The suspects were reportedly caught wearing military uniforms while escorting vehicles to evade security checks and providing security services to Very Important Persons (VIPs). Their actions have caused significant damage to the reputation of the army, as some of them had been previously arrested and handed over to the police for the same offense.
During the parade of the suspects, Owoyomi emphasized the gravity of their actions and expressed concern about the negative impact on the army’s image. Impersonation of military officers not only undermines the authority and trust in the armed forces but also poses potential security risks.
The Nigerian Army is determined to address this issue and is working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure that those involved face the full consequences of their actions. Lieutenant Ayodeji Owoyomi urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities to help combat impersonation and maintain the integrity of the military.
