Last Wednesday, a horrifying incident unfolded in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State, as gunmen stormed the residence of a newly wedded couple and abducted the wife, Rukkayat Musa. The harrowing incident took place at Oniyangi area on Emir’s road in Ilorin West local government area.
According to reports, the armed assailants gained access to the couple’s rented apartment located at Alaya’s Compound. While the husband, identified as Mr. Musa, managed to escape through the backyard of the building, his wife was unfortunately unable to evade capture.
The kidnappers wasted no time in establishing contact with the family, demanding a hefty ransom of N50 million for the safe release of Rukkayat. It is believed that the abductors made it clear that the ransom must be paid before the weekend.
A relative of the victim, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed that Rukkayat, a native of Gbodofu compound in the area, had been residing in the rented apartment with her husband since their marriage three months ago.
“Rukkayat is from Gbodofu compound but she lived in a rented apartment with her husband after their marriage on Emir’s road, where they were attacked on Wednesday night,” the relative explained.
While the family desperately tries to secure the safe release of their daughter, they find themselves in a financial predicament. The demanded ransom is an exorbitant sum beyond their means. As a result, they have issued an impassioned appeal to philanthropists and the public for assistance in raising the required funds to save Rukkayat’s life.
In a fundraising leaflet circulated by the family, they implore kind-hearted individuals to contribute any amount they can afford. They expressed their belief that Allah will protect the contributors’ own children from falling prey to kidnappers. The leaflet provides the family’s bank account details for those willing to offer financial support.
The family promptly reported the abduction to the police, specifically to the Oja Oba station in Ilorin. However, Kwara Police spokesman, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, expressed unawareness of the incident, suggesting that the case might not have been officially reported at any police station thus far.
