Newly Appointed Magistrate Arrested For Disguising As Woman To Write Law Exams For His Girlfriend

Ammaari Musa Semwogerere, a newly appointed Magistrate, has been arrested and subsequently dismissed from his position after he was caught disguising as a woman to sit for exams on behalf of his girlfriend at the Law Development Centre (LDC) Lira Campus in Uganda.

Local media reports reveal that Semwogerere was recently promoted to the position of Magistrate Grade One on probation by the Judicial Service Commission, just two weeks prior to the incident.

On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, Semwogerere, using the alias “Mukisa Anthony,” was caught red-handed writing an examination for his girlfriend, identified as Irene Mutonyi, who is a Bar Course student at the LDC Lira Campus.

The authorities at the campus immediately reported the incident to the police, leading to Semwogerere’s arrest. He has been charged with two counts of forgery and one count of impersonation.

On Friday, July 28, he appeared before the Lira Chief Magistrate, who subsequently remanded him to prison until August 3, 2023.

Frank Nigel Othembi, the Director of LDC, issued a statement regarding the matter, stating that Semwogerere’s actions violated Section 351 of the Penal Code Act (Forgery) and Section 381 of the Penal Code Act (Impersonation).

In response to the incident, the Judiciary issued a statement terminating Semwogerere’s newly appointed position, stating that he will not be employed in the Judiciary Service. (CONTINUE READING HERE)
