ASUU, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, has vowed to go on another nationwide strike over a number of issues, including the lack of governing councils in all federal universities.
Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the president of ASUU, said this at a news conference held at the union national office in Abuja.
He pointed out that the dissolution of the Governing Councils violated the laws that govern the institutions that are now in place.
The union also criticized the Federal Government for what it saw to be a callous disregard for academic concerns at Nigerian Federal Universities.
It also criticized the university system’s 25% pay increase for other academic staff members and 35% wage increase for professors.
The body said that it considered the pay increase to be a salary award that the government can revoke at any moment. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
