The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has urged the students to suspends to protest action amid Strike.
This is coming in a statement, signed by its zonal Chairman, Comrade Omotoso Surprise, the Union urged students to sheath their swords and return home, as they “ await a positive result/feedback” from both Federal Government and striking Universities Staff Unions.
Report is coming barely few days after the Nigerian soldier allegedly disrupted and opened fire during a peaceful demonstration embarked by students in the region of Ondo state.
Academic staff union of university, ASUU has been on prolonged strike since 14th of February, 2022 and in which other varsity unions have join strike action too.
Students have mount the street to stage their grievances over strike embarked upon by the striking union over the federal government inability to meet its demands.
NANS which urged the students to go home after soldier treats stated “With optimism we must forge ahead and sheath our swords.This is smart and expedient, it is not cowardice or naivety”
“Against all odds, we have withstood the strongest of all horrors, we survived the darkest nights of the day, persevered the scorching ray of the sun, and endured the pestilence that paraded the streets as we became vulnerable in the quest for resumption in no distant time,these are the sacrifices for our plights thus the need for proper commendation”
“We have stood our ground gallantly, we have spoken without fear and intimidation,our voices have pierced through the horizons of every governmental parastatal, and our agitations have been channeled to the oppressor virulently without equivocation.”
“Furthermore we wish to inform Nigerian students that the acrimonious act exhibited by officers of the Nigerian Army Force has been duly taken care of and reports of such offensive and repugnant attack on students have been reported to the appropriate quarters.”
Having shown our grievances and agitations in a peaceful but avid and keen manner, we hereby suspend the solidarity movement till further notice and we are expectant of a positive response from the Federal Government and ASUU“.
“Nevertheless we will not hesitate to take to the street again if our expectations tarries.” The statement read
