On Friday, armed bandits attacked several villages in Zamfara State‘s Maru Local Government Area, capturing more than 100 people hostage.
The bandits invaded four towns, including Mutumji, Sabongari Mahuta, Kwanar Dutsi, and Unguwar Kawo, and took the villagers away, most of whom were women and kids.
According to reports from Mutumji, the bandits entered the area after evening prayers by shooting randomly, causing panicked villagers to flee.
It is claimed that each village was asked to pay different amounts as levies – Mutumji N50 million, Kwanar Dutsi N30 million, Sabongari Mahuta N20 million, and Unguwar Kawo N10 million.
Freshreporters News noted that this incident follows last week’s abduction of 15 individuals in the exact region.
Meanwhile, bandits have been charging farmers in some areas of Kaduna State’s Igabi, Giwa, and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas levies to be allowed to cultivate their land without facing dire consequences.
According to Daily Trust, the impacted cities like Kidandan, Galadimawa Kerawa, Sabon Layi, Sabon Birni, and Ruma witness farmers giving between N70,000 and N100,000 to bandits for permission to gather their produce…[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>
