Hundreds of women in Rivers State staged a dramatic walkout on Friday during the Renewed Hope Empowerment Programme, an initiative designed to benefit 500 women in the state.
The disruption occurred in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area when Lady Ete-Ibas, wife of the Sole Administrator, Ibok Ette Ibas, mounted the stage to deliver a speech.
Expecting to be addressed by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who initiated the empowerment programme, the attendees grew visibly upset when it became clear she would not be present.
Disappointed by the turn of events the women staged a walkout.
In a now-viral video, the women were seen chanting:
“We want Sim, Give us Sim, we want Fubara, We want Fubara to speak to us.”
